Why Fanø 19 ?
Our soap factory is located on Fanø's historic main road, at number 19. The charming house, which dates from 1891, is a true testament to the craftsmanship of its era. This location, just a few metres from the North Sea, provides the perfect setting for producing high-quality, story-telling soap.
The most important aspect of a quality soap is, naturally, its ability to cleanse and moisturise the skin. It is also essential, though, to consider the appearance, fragrance, ingredients and environmental issues.
Our soaps are cold processed. This is mainly to avoid overheating, which could damage the beneficial properties of the valuable oils. The cold process method involves the generation of natural heat, making additional warming unnecessary. This helps to save energy and protect the environment. Industrial soap production uses a hot process, which accelerates the maturing of the soap, allowing it to be sold after just a few days. In contrast, cold processing means the soap must mature for six weeks on our wooden shelves.
We only use natural oils, such as olive, rice bran and castor oils, as well as solid fats like cocoa, mango and shea butter, along with coconut oil and babassu oil. Some of our soaps contain added ingredients such as sea salt, beer or goat's milk, which alter their properties.
We don't use any chemicals or preservatives in our products.
A good soap does not have to look boring. We weren't happy with the standard soap slices available on the market. That's why we designed our own moulds and selected a few ready-made ones that met our requirements. Our soaps show features of Fanø and Denmark.
We only use essential oils in our soaps. Their scent is more subtle and not as overwhelming as synthetic perfumed oils. Essential oils tend to be pricier than perfumed oils. Additionally, the scent fades over time, whereas synthetic oils always keep their fragrance. Anyway, we are convinced that only essential oils should be used in natural soap.
Our products are packaged in recycled, FSC-certified cardboard. A cool, dry, well-ventilated environment is the best place to store soap. This purpose is well met by our tubes. Our tubes meet these needs favourably. Their aesthetic appeal makes them a great candidate for repurposing once emptied.
